Inspiration Information - Amp Fiddler and Sly & Robbie

"Drama Inside"

Earlier this year, Strut Records teamed up introduce the sound of Detroit’s own Amp Fiddler and reggae legends Sly & Robbie. If you are not familiar with these names, it’s a shame, but I will give you a brief overview. Amp fiddles is mostly known as a R&B/Soul singer, as well as a producer and keyboardist. His associations with the legendary George Clinton and Maxwell have opened some doors for him but these days his sound carries it’s own. Sly & Robbie are legends themselves in the raggae and dub production world. The album, Inspiration Information , is truly soulful and honest. Songs about life and truth. Sly & Robbie seem to never dissapoint me and Amp’s voice just fits beautifully.

“Our manager told us about Amp” says Robbie. “We heard that he used to be part of the Funkadelic set-up.” “We were always right into the Parlia-Funkadelic sound,” recalls Sly. “Their brand of funk was so different. I loved it from their first record. Me and Bootsy Colins are good friends – he played on one of our albums – and I always love Motown too, ever since I was a kid. That all brought us closer to Amp and the musical groove just stuck. We hit it off from the first session. www.strut-records.com/

MR. T. A Real Hero! It's About Time!

Mr. T. is really going to do it! There is about to be the first ever Mr. T graphic novel. This is been a long time coming and is just what the world needs right now. I’m not kidding. The comic book, authored by Christopher Bunting, issued a limited 4,000 copy run in February, I believe. From the initial test run its apparent that the world is ready for a real black super hero. Mr. T himself, who served as executive editor on the project, acknowledges that his persona is perfect for a comic book rendition, and further hopes the novel with cause readers to demand more heroes of color.

“People can relate to Mr. T. They know what he stands for,” Mr. T stated. “T [is] for tender, but if you’re a bad guy, it’s T for tough! Get that message out: give people their own black heroes! I pity the fool who don’t get my book, read it, and enjoy it!”

The Mr. T graphic novel retails for $15.95 at any comic book outlet. Mr. T. is the man! Don’t ever forget it!

Betty Page - Rest in Peace

Bettie Page, sweet-smiling legendary 1950s pin-up queen with the killer curves and coal-black bangs, died today of pneumonia at a Los Angeles area hospital. She was 85 years old. She suffered a heart attack one week ago and never regained consciousness. Her popularity as an underground, guilty pleasures phenomenon has continued to soar despite the fact that the reclusive Page disappeared almost a half century ago, leading many to believe that one of the most photographed individuals of the 20th century was already dead.

As the model who many have argued raised cheesecake to an art, Page combined exuberant, wide-eyed innocence with confident, sometimes aggressive sexuality. VANITY FAIR praised the playfully seductive Page as “our Uber-pin-up.” The NEW YORK TIMES has declared that today “her star shines more brightly than it did in her brief heyday from 1950 to 1957.” PLAYBOY immortalized Page as one of its inaugural centerfolds and recently named her “the model of the century, yet she remains one of its best kept secrets.” In a recent TVGuide.com poll, Bettie Page was voted the “ultimate sex goddess,” outscoring others such as Marilyn Monroe.

Born on April 22, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee, Bettie (spelled “Betty” on her birth certificate) Mae Page was the second child of six born to Walter Roy Page and Edna Mae Pirtle. The family was poor, moved often, and as a child, Page frequently found it necessary to take charge of her siblings. On several occasions they were dispatched to an orphanage. Life was hard. They were raised in the Church. Page owed her extraordinary looks and high intelligence to her parents, but it was a mixed blessing. Her mother did not want her. Her father molested her.

Zion I - Mixtape

With the buzz already building from the leak of tracks featuring remixes, verses and interpretations of/by the likes of Santogold, Public Enemy, Talib Kweli & more, the time has come for Zion I’s The Search and the Seizure mixtape to hit the streets. Built for heavy walkman rotation in the classic sense, the A-side features supa emcee Zumbi and mega producer AmpLive putting their spin on hip-hop classics, with the B-side stepping into indie rock and electro territory. Boom-bap addicts and fans of Amp’s recent remixes for Radiohead, Jamie Lidell, Tapes N Tapes and more should have plenty to sink their teeth into. Look for super-limited cassette editions if you’re lucky, and make sure to grab The TakeOver on January 27th. Read On! & Download!

Dizzee Rascal Causing Trouble

Dylan Mills, also known as Dizzee Rascal apparently lost control and has was arrested last Friday (December 12th) This is partially hear say, but an argument between Dizzee and another driver evolved into a situation where the police were led to believe that he was in the possession of a dangerous weapon.

Here’s the basics…in the middle of the afternoon Dizzee lost his temper and allegedly confronted another driver with a baseball bat. We don’t know if it was wood or not..so don’t ask. He was arrested, held over night, and let go on bail the following morning. We don’t care what he did! We support it! Rage!
