Artist of the Moment - Near

Where are not going to lie. This is really all we know. He goes by Near, he rolls with the Wall Krush Crew (WKC), and he’s real nice with the cans. Oh yeah, and he’s from Holland.

Afrika Bambaataa - Interview

Throughout the 1970’s, hip-hop culture was just beginning to change the world. Afrika Bambaataa, who out of respect has been acknowledged as the "grandfather", "godfather" and "father" of the electro-funk sound, has played his part in what became a world-wide movement. Coming out of the streets, searching for something positive in his life to share with the world, Bambaataa reached out to the people through music and by founding a community organization known as the Universal Zulu Nation. His music has influenced everyone from Kraftwerk to Rage Against the Machine.

After the staggering dig-in-the-crates that was Dave Clarke’s Back In The Box, the legendary DJ Sneak gets his hands dirty delivering his mix for the prestigious series from leading UK house label, NRK.

Having somewhat of a renaissance of late due to an infamous back-to-back session with Ricardo Villalobos, Sneak aka Carlos Sosa has a history of continually staying ahead of trends and making house and techno that really matters. This makes him the perfect Back In The Box candidate, where unearthed gems and anthems from days gone by are delivered with a fresh outlook. Read On!

Mayer Hawthorne & The County

Mayer Hawthorne grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just outside Detroit. We are pretty sure who he really is but we’re not going to say anything. Hawthorne has been playing instruments and producing music most of his life, but supposedly never expected to grow up to be a singer.

Recently Stones Throw Records heard just two recordings and decided to sign Mayer Hawthorne & The County (formerly the County Commissioners) and release a couple golden tracks on vinyl. We just wanted to give you a little taste of something different…something that brings out fond memories of love and passion in music that has only been referred to as something from the past. If you just kick back, you can visualize yourself listening to this shit in your 1972 Cadillac. Read On & Listen!
