FIRST MUSEUM SURVEY OF INFLUENTIAL STREET ARTIST SHEPARD FAIREY OPENS AT THE INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART/BOSTON



Last Friday, Shepard Fairy’s 20 year retrospective began at The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston. This exhibit is the first museum showing of Shepard Fairey’s work. The influential street artist is mostly known these days for the Obey Giant stencil and his iconic Obama poster that has recently caused him some possible contriversy. His stickers and posters have covered street signs and brick walls through out the world. Even thought he major media has overlooked his Fairy in the past on occasions, his extremely detailed stencil and mixed media work has always been admired through out the years by art lovers and critics. RZA, Rakaa, Traxamillion, & Casual Gather for Chess & Martial Arts Exhibition



The Hip-Hop Chess Federation (HHCF) has announced that they will be a hosting a free all ages event called Mind Over Matter II. This popular chess and martial arts exhibition will be hold on Feb 28th 2009 at John O'Connell High School in San Francisco. The HHCF is a non-profit organization that fuses music, chess and martial arts to promote unity, strategy and non-violence. Mind Over Matter II takes place at 2355 Folsom Street @ 19th from 11 AM to 5 PM in San Francisco. Read On


Street Shots by Martha Cooper



Martha Cooper, well known for her documentation of graffiti and hip-hop among many other cultures, has just unveiled her latest book, “Going Postal.” In honor of Going Postal and Martha’s recent collaboration with Shepard Fairey on a new release for obey clothing, Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles hosted an event featuring a variety of her photography. KERO ONE - Early Believers

Since the release of his debut album, KERO has toured the world and done some production with Talib Kweli Mark Farina. Prefuse 73 - Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian

Guillermo Scott Herren, better known as Prefuse 73 is getting ready to release his most recent album, 'Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian'. Over the years Herren has released a vast amount of projects on vinyl, CD, and digital under Warp Records and a few other labels. He has been one of those few artists that has been able to bridge the gap between hip-hop and avant-rock circles and continued to always come up with something fresh. This 29-track Prefuse album, he takes back to the days with out digital studios and decided to record the entire project on analog Ampex tape. The album will be out on the 14th of April in the United States and the 20th of April world-wide.
