Eccentric Soul: Smart's Palace

Numero Group is a little label based out of Chicago founded by self-proclaimed "record obsessives” that may possibly be the answer to any crate diggers wet dream. Instead of focusing on what the music industry is going to announce as the next big thing they’ve focused on searching out dusty diamonds in the rough and bringing them back to life. Since I’ve been a studio rat in Detroit for sometime now I’ve had the pleasure of discovering some soulful gems that have been sitting in family vaults for three decades. Nothing surprises me anymore. Numero’s latest release, Smart’s Palace, is a compilation that gives you an insight in to a hungry funk, soul, and R&B scene that was brewing Wichita, Kansas in the late sixties and early seventies.
This project documents the stories of many soulful nights in Smart’s Palace with the Smart brothers and many hungry and talented singers and instrumentalists that shared the stage with them. Don’t be a shamed if you take a moment to sit and listen and realize that you’ve never heard any of these stories. Just appreciate the fact that they’ve been dug up. The release comes with a 28 page booklet -- filled with vintage photos, in support of the Smart story, told by Dante Carfagna and Rob Sevier.
